B.C. Teacher’s Federation have circulated an email among its members that reveals the plan of a full-scale strike on Tuesday. The email mentioned that “we believe that at this time, the best way to increase the pressure at the bargaining table is with increased job action.” Furthermore, it was added that “our intention is to bargain non-stop throughout the weekend. We believe that a small, but important window to negotiate a fair deal exists and we want to take every opportunity to get that deal.”

Previously on Tuesday, a complete majority of 86 per cent teachers voted to intensify existing job action to close all schools and hence the BCTF announced to have immediately served its 72-hour notice of a walkout. A formal announcement about the move to strike is anticipated to be announced at a press conference on Thursday morning. The union have decided to hold a study session on Monday, when it will give teachers a chance to review the BCTF’s bargaining package.

On the other hand, the B.C. Confederation of Parent Advisory Councils mentioned in a statement issued on Wednesday that both sides should keep children out of it. BCCPAC president, Terry Berting, mentioned that “we know it will be extremely difficult for all” and “we acknowledge that teachers have some genuine concerns that need to be addressed” but “we also want improvements in the system. Teachers, we hear what you are saying, but let’s work together — with all of our education partners — to bring about the positive changes that we all desire. That can’t happen as long as the two major partners are fighting.”
