On July 1, 2014 at approximately 3:00 a.m., emergency personnel were dispatched to the 1st 100 block of Donald Street for the report a female having been shot.

Upon arrival an adult female was found deceased, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the upper body.  The male caller, who had remained at the scene, was taken into custody without incident.

The victim has been identified as Michelle Stobbe, 28 years of Winnipeg.

Members of the Homicide Unit continued to investigate.

The initial investigation revealed that the male had been handling a 9mm handgun, legally registered to him, when the victim grabbed at his arm and the gun discharged. Since then, further evidence gathered indicates that the deceased took no part in the discharge of the firearm.
