Sinhem Srun arrested for the murder of Vandin Svay in Markham

Investigators in the York Regional Police Homicide Unit have charged a fourth suspect with First Degree Murder and Attempted Murder in connection with the October 16, 2010 stabbing at the New Century Plaza restaurant in the Town of Markham.

On Monday, October 25, 2010, the fourth suspect was located and arrested without incident. 

On October 22, 2010, two suspects turned themselves in to police after contacting Homicide Bureau investigators earlier that day. Meng Ly LIM 28 and Cho CHEA 24, both of Toronto, turned themselves in at #2 District Headquarters. Veasna SAM, 30, of Toronto, turned himself in to police on Saturday, October 23, 2010.

On Saturday, October 16, 2010, at approximately 11:50 p.m. police responded to a disturbance call at a plaza located at 398 Ferrier Street, in the Town of Markham. Uniform officers arrived on scene and learned that an altercation had taken place at this location and that there were injured individuals being transported by friends to hospital. Officers attended the hospital and learned that two individuals had been admitted to the hospital and were suffering from stab wounds.

Mr. Vandin SVAY, 29, of Newmarket, succumbed to his injuries. The cause of death has been determined to be sharp-force trauma. A 24-year-old Newmarket man is currently listed in stable condition and remains in hospital.

• Sinhem SRUN, 32, of Toronto

CHARGES:

• First Degree Murder
• Attempt Murder

Mr. SRUN has been held in custody and will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Newmarket on Tuesday, October 26, 2010.
