In a recent press release, Vancouver police have confirmed to have arrested a well-known gang related suspect, 19-year-old Jaskaran Singh Heer, who is believed to be involved in an ongoing gang conflict in the southeast part of the city. VPD found Heer with a gun upon searching his car and that was enough to arrest him. Although it is their first arrest, police expects to make several more in the coming weeks.

In his remarks, Cst. Brian Montague stated that Heer and his associates in the car are known to the VPD and are believed to be involved in a string of violent crimes. He mentioned that “the incidents are targeted.  Many of these crimes are believed to be related to each other and can be linked to opposing groups.” Montague refrained from naming any of Heer’s gang members, but said that they have tensions with other gangs. He explained that “there could be several reasons for the disputes. But at this point all I’ll say is the disputes have been ongoing between the two groups for years and at times they are less volatile. But right now we’re seeing a flair-up and some really violent incidents because of it.”

Explaining that the gangs are believed to be involved in a range of criminal activity, Montague alleged that “we’re looking at shootings, arsons, assaults and a number of other incidents that have been occurring in the South Slope area of Vancouver. The gangs have been at-odds with each other for about three years.”
