Liberal Party Leader, Justin Trudeau, has recently mentioned in his remarks that he does not regret visiting a mosque, which was later found to have donated thousands of dollars to a charity that has recently been declared a terrorist entity by the Canadian government. According to a statement issued by the organization, The Islamic Community Centre of South Shore, i.e. located just south of Montreal, provided more than $11,000 to the International Relief Fund For The Afflicted And Needy (IRFAN – Canada),.
A statement mentioned in April by the Public Safety Minister, Steven Blaney, revealed that “between 2005 and 2009, IRFAN-Canada transferred approximately $14.6 million worth of resources to various organizations associated with Hamas, a listed terrorist entity under the Criminal Code.” Whereas on the other hand, the chairman of the mosque’s board, Usman Shaikh, initially claimed on Friday that he didn’t know of any payment to IRFAN-Canada. However, later Shaikh mentioned in an email sent on Friday that his mosque had donated roughly $11,000 to IRFAN-Canada, but the payments were in 2009, before Canada listed the organization as a terrorist entity.
Shaikh alleged that “the contributions were made in 2009. At that time IRFAN was a legitimate organization registered under Canadian laws.” He mentioned that “we have no way to find out their agenda. No contributions were made (to) IRFAN after 2009.” Meanwhile, Mr. Trudeau mentioned in response that Shaikh’s comment and said “if the minister of public safety has concerns about this or any other mosque, (then) he (should) act on it and not use it as a way to attack people who are doing their jobs and bringing Canadians together.”
