Officers with the York Regional Police Collision Investigation Unit have charged a 42-year-old man following an investigation into a fatal pedestrian collision in the Town of Richmond Hill.

On Tuesday, September 9, 2014, at approximately 11:30 a.m., police responded to a serious pedestrian collision on Yonge Street, north of Major Mackenzie Drive. Investigators have been able to determine that a York Region Transit bus was turning onto southbound Yonge Street from Lorne Avenue when it struck a pedestrian who was walking across the roadway. The pedestrian, a 75-year-old woman from the Town of Richmond Hill, was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries. She later succumbed to those injuries in hospital.

The bus remained at the scene of the collision. The driver of the bus was not injured.
