Winnipeg man Elvis Marcel McKay charged with second degree murder

On November 29, 2014 after 2:00 a.m., emergency personnel were dispatched to a residence in the 100 block of La Verendrye Street for the report of a stabbing.

A 31-year-old male was located and found to be suffering from an apparent stab wound in the upper body.  He was transported to hospital in critical condition where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The victim has been identified as Victor Cory Hardisty of Winnipeg.

Members of the Homicide Unit were notified and continued to investigate with the assistance of members from the Forensic Identification Section.

The investigation has revealed that the victim had arrived at the residence shortly before the incident occurred.  A drinking party commenced which resulted in an argument a few hours later between the victim and suspect. The dispute escalated to the point where the suspect produced a weapon and stabbed the victim. The suspect fled the residence and police were summoned.

On November 29, 2014 at approximately 4:15 p.m., Elvis Marcel McKay, 38 years of Winnipeg was arrested at a residence on Manitoba Avenue. He has been charged with the following for his alleged involvement:

– Second Degree Murder
– Fail to Comply Condition Recognizance x 6

He was remanded into custody.
