Shortly after 10:35 p.m., on December 23, 2014, Neguac RCMP responded to a two-vehicle collision on Highway 8 between Miramichi and Bathurst, approximately five kilometres north of La Bonne Route Restaurant.
Two people in one of the vehicles, the driver, a 58-year-old man from Moncton, and a passenger, a 43-year-old man from Moncton, were killed. Another passenger, a 24-year-old woman from Dieppe, was injured and taken to hospital. The driver of other vehicle, a 47-year-old man from the Bouctouche area, was also injured and taken to hospital.
The highway was closed for several hours and the investigation into the cause of the crash is continuing. An RCMP Collision Reconstructionist was called to assist with the investigation. The road was clear at the time. The initial investigation suggests speedmay have been a contributing factor in the crash.
The names of the victims are not being released at this time to allow proper notification of their families.
