The shooting deaths of two young men on Boxing Day in Anahim Lake, 23-year-old Matthew Hennigar and 22-year-old Kalvin Andy, in a house on Dorsey Road in the small Chilcotin community have left many distressed due to an orphaned baby. Anahim Lake RCMP revealed that it was informed just before midnight at on last Friday about number of shots fired at a home in the 2100-block of Dorsey Road in the town about 320 km west of Williams Lake.
One of two men murdered, Hennigar, was described by friends and acquaintances as a “nice young man” and the father of a one-year-old child. Owner of the Anahim Lake Trading general store and gas bar, Deana Wood, remembered that “he was 23, and he had a wife and a one-year-old son,” adding that “he was a really nice kid, one of those pleasant kids who was always smiling, saying please and thank you.” Wood stated that “you couldn’t find anybody in town who’d have a bad thing to say about Matthew. He definitely wasn’t into a gang. He definitely wasn’t a drinker. I have a liquor store here and he was never one of my regular customers coming in and doing that kind of stuff.”
Police has announced to have charged four men and two women related to the deaths. The charges were approved by central B.C. Mounties against all six people, who are under the age of 34, for the double murder of the two young men.
