The former owner of Toronto’s famous monkey Darwin, or “Ikea Monkey,” Yasmin Nakhuda has reportedly bought two more exotic Japanese macaques, learning about which did not please the animal rights activists. Just last year, Yasmin Nakhuda failed to win back Darwin from an animal sanctuary but said she hoped the animal would be returned to her.

However, sources close to Nakhuda have now confirmed that the former pet owner has once again bought two more monkeys, who are named Sumo and Tibet. According to a Facebook announcement on Monday, it alleged that “they live in a place where they are loved and cared for,” adding that “we have little Darwins and just like him they’ve been hurt and traumatized. They have anger and resentment and need love and healing. Let us join hands by educating ourselves and sharing what we know to help them. The journey starts…buckle your seat belts!”

Nakhuda is now confirmed to be leaving in Kawartha Lakes region since there are no bylaws against owning monkeys there. The manager for Municipal Law Enforcement for Kawartha Lakes, Aaron Sloan, confirmed that they do not have any bylaws regarding exotic pets. However, he added that the city is “examining” a bylaw about exotic animals, but there have not been many complaints over the years to drive the issue. He said no one has complained about monkeys recently. Sloan stated that “it’s on the radar, we are in the research stages.”

  1. Such a selfish self entitled witch. This is not a child, nor is it a domesticated animal. It is people like her that drive the trade in exotic animals….the breeders only care for profit and the buyers only care about themselves.
