Edmonton police charge Mark Moriarty with sexual assault

The Edmonton Police Service Sexual Assault Section has arrested a man in connection with multiple sexual assaults dating back to 2012.

Between January 2012 and October 2014, Southwest Division received several reports of stranger assaults occurring primarily in the Terwillegar area. Investigations led police to believe that multiple events were were potentially linked to one suspect.  

On Saturday, Dec. 07, 2014, Southwest Division responded to a report of a break and enter and sexual assault. A male suspect was arrested and charged in this incident.  

This suspect became a person of interest in the previous events which had occurred in the Terwillegar area. EPS Detectives continued their investigation and obtained further evidence which confirmed the suspect’s involvement in these previous events. 

On Thursday, Feb. 26, 2015, the suspect was arrested, without incident.  

Edmonton resident, Mark Moriarty, 31, was charged with the following:  

  • June 2012 file: choke overcome and sex assault
  • January 2014 file: assault, disguise with intent
  • January 2014 file: assault
  • May 2014 file: assault, disguise with intent
  • June 2014 file: disguise with intent, sex assault and robbery

Police believe Moriarty may be connected to other assault files. The investigation continues.
