A ruthless dog attack has resulted in a death in Hamilton on Wednesday night even after a passerby tried to fight the dog with a baseball bat. According to the investigators, two men were walking the dog along Burton Street at 11:15 p.m., when the dog abruptly jumped on one of them and he collapsed.

A man living in the neighborhood, Martin Wall, claims to have heard screams on his porch on Keith Street around 11:30 pm, but he said that “I thought it was a fight. We get fights here all the time.” He stated that “I’m not having a good day” after learning what had happened. A second resident in the area who heard the cries, James Cox, said he was just going to bed when he heard what he thought was a woman screaming. He claims that “it went on for 10 minutes…a dog was barking the whole time.”

Another resident who witnessed the incident and called the police, Bert Stoner, stated that “I’ve seen it. He was down and then got back up.” He alleged that there was no one else besides the two guys who showed up with a bat, “trying to knock the dog off.” “He (the dog) didn’t seem to go after anyone else…just the guy on the bike,” Stoner said. According to a police report, a passerby intervened and using a baseball bat, struck the dog to get him off the man, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene. The dog is now in the care of Animal Control.
