Charges of second degree murder have been approved and laid against Daniel Paul after a lengthy and challenging investigation into the death of Crystal Rose Paul.

On March 3rd, the body of the 36-year-old mother of five was found in the basement suite of a home on East 22nd Avenue near Main Street. Her death was suspicious and the VPD Major Crime Section determined the woman was murdered.

Forty-two-year-old Daniel Alphonse Paul was identified as the primary suspect in the case, but police were unable to locate him. On April 1st, after public appeals and an extensive search, patrol officers recognized Paul riding a bicycle on West Broadway near Yukon Street and arrested him without incident.

After Paul’s arrest, investigators continued to meticulously, methodically, and carefully gather the evidence needed to recommend charges. Daniel Paul remains in custody and as this is now before the courts, no additional information or details will be released.
