Authorities have confirmed the death of two people and injuries to three others in result of an overnight shooting that started inside a Toronto nightclub and spread to nearby streets. According to the police, it was informed of shots being fired at about 3:15 a.m. on Tuesday at the Muzik nightclub on the grounds of Exhibition Place.

Speaking to reporters at the site of incident, Supt. Frank Bergen explained that the victims were a male and a female in their 20s and 30s. Bergen stated that “we also have three (victims) that have gone to different hospitals with various injuries,” adding that he believes there might be other victims and they should contact police or Crime Stoppers. Although the nightclub was hosting the official OVO Fest afterparty featuring Toronto rapper Drake, it cannot be confirmed whether he was at the nightclub at the time of the shooting. Bergen claimed that it was a “well-run event with lots of police officers around the area,” adding that “we’re satisfied at this point that the organization involved was doing their best and this did occur at approximately 3:30 a.m. as things were shutting down for the evening.”

On the other hand, Mayor John Tory mentioned in a statement that the he is “saddened and angered by these senseless shootings.” He said that “this is not the Toronto we know. It is not the Toronto that has been a welcoming safe host for hundreds of thousands already this summer right up to and including this weekend.”
