Five sacred altar vessels were stolen recently from an Anglican Church in Newcastle and investigators are seeking the return of these unique and valuable items.

Between Sunday January 2nd at approximately 2 p.m. and Tuesday January 4, 2011, at 12 p.m. unknown suspect(s) entered by force St. George’s Anglican Church on Mill Street South in Newcastle and stole five altar vessels from the church interior office. A property maintenance person discovered the main doors on the northeast corner of the building ajar when clearing snow Tuesday afternoon.

The stolen items consist of three sterling silver chalices and two patens (small plates). They are individually engraved with identifiable markers indicating they are property of the church.

Investigators would like to speak with anyone who might recognize these items for sale on Internet sites and/or who might be contacted for their metal content.
