A 17 year old boy was struck and killed while walking to school this morning at 8:25.

A dumptruck was making a right turn to go south on Nanaimo from Hastings and the student was crossing Nanaimo when the collision occurred. He was killed instantly.

“This is a complete tragedy that has affected everyone involved,” says Constable Jana McGuinness. “Even seasoned officers have found this to be a very tragic and unsettling incident.”

Any witnesses are asked to contact the VPD Collision Investigation Unit at 604-717-3012.

The boy’s family from overseas have yet to be notified.

The driver is cooperating with police and has been extremely traumatized by the incident.
