Toronto Mayor John Tory has offered well wishes and sent Christmas greetings to all Torontonians in a message that focused on hope for a “happy, healthy and prosperous new year.” The 2015 Christmas address by the Mayor was published online.
Mayor Tory praised the city’s diversity, calling it Toronto’s greatest strength as he alleged that “while we have a strong economy and a great location and a modern city with a modern attitude, it really is the way we live together as people that defines the Toronto the world is watching.” Moreover, Mr. Tory also made remarks about earlier this year when he welcomed a group of refugees to the city. He stressed that Torontonians should continue to welcome newcomers with open arms. He pointed out that “that has been our strength, as we have embraced newcomers and they have responded with hard work and with accomplishment.” Tory alleged “the Syrians will be no different if we welcome them with generosity and support as we have always done with newcomers in the past.”
Speaking about himself, Mr. Tory promised to work towards “connecting” the city and creating better employment opportunities. In his final remarks, Mr. Try wished happy holidays and encouraged Torontonians to reach out to others this season. He said that “on behalf of Toronto City Council, may I express the hope that you have a wonderful, happy time with your families over this holiday time,” adding that “you will perhaps take a minute to think of someone else who needs a bit of cheer or a helping hand, here in the city that we all love.”
