Two men and a woman have been charged for First Degree Murder in the 2007 death of Amanpreet Kaur BAHIA.

Charged are the victim’s husband, Baljinder Singh BAHIA, 41, of Surrey, Tanpreet Kaur ATHWAL, 42, of Surrey and Eduard Viktorovitch BARANEC, 33, of Burnaby. All three individuals were arrested last Friday in Surrey and have been remanded in custody to appear in court today in Surrey Provincial Court.

On February 7, 2007 at approximately 11:20 am the body of 33-year-old Amanpreet Kaur BAHIA of Surrey was found deceased by family members after returning to the family home from an outing. Amanpreet was the mother of three young daughters, two of which were home at the time of the murder.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) conducted an extensive investigation into all circumstances surrounding Amanpreet’s murder. During the course of the investigation Baljinder Singh BAHIA was identified as a person of interest in his wife’s murder. The Provincial Unsolved Homicide Unit was asked to review the file to determine whether there were viable investigative avenues and take conduct of the investigation. In early December 2010, investigators from the Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crime Historical Case Unit – South provided investigators with new information that assisted in advancing the Amanpreet BAHIA investigation.
