stabbing incident dunbarton high school results in 8 injured, 1 arrestedA stabbing incident in Dunbarton High School resulted in eight people being injured and a 14-year-old female student arrested. Students at the school in Pickering were ‘terrified’ by the attack. According to Durham Regional Police spokesman, Dave Selby, the stabbings were reported around 8:32 a.m. and police responded within six minutes.

In his remarks, Mr. Selby stated that police arrested a suspect inside the school soon after their arrival, adding that “we got there pretty fast and were able to arrest her pretty quickly.” 14-year-old Cassandra Ball was in the front hallway of the school when a rush of students passed her screaming and laughing. Confused Ball then stood with her friend in the empty hallway, only to see the assailant walking up to them carrying two eight-inch long knives. She explained that “I was terrified,” adding that “I was frozen on the spot. As soon as I got a chance, we bolted through the nearest door and [the assailant] kept walking.”

According to Sgt. Bill Calder, eight people have been reported stabbed and six of them are students. Although police had confirmed earlier that only one person was taken to hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries, Calder stated that four victims were taken to the hospital and none of the injuries proved to be serious. Calder said the assailant entered the school through the south entrance, waving a knife around, but that the assaults occurred in several different locations throughout the school.
