rcmp officer dies in a fatal langford car crashThe RCMP has confirmed that one of its officers, 32-year-old Const. Sarah Beckett, has died of her injuries in received a crash in Langford earlier this morning. An RCMP officer since 2005, Beckett has left behind a husband and two children. While making the announcement, RCMP Chief Supt. Ray Bernoties revealed that “today is a tragic and difficult day,” adding that “today we lost one of our own. “This morning met with her family, who must now start to deal with this absolute tragedy.”

Whereas on the other hand, Solicitor General Mike Morris mentioned in the B.C. legislature that a member of the RCMP had been killed, explaining that “the member was on duty at a traffic stop and was unfortunately struck and killed on duty.” It was added that “she’s a mother of two young children and my condolences go out to her, her family, her workmates in the RCMP and the police in general.”

According the details of the crash, the officer’s cruiser was involved in a collision with a pickup truck at Goldstream Avenue and Peatt Road. The driver of the pickup truck is in police custody at the hospital as the officers investigate the crash. Morris stated that “it’s always tragic, and that’s happened too many times over my career,” adding that “too many of my colleagues have died. Close personal friends of mine. And there’s no words to describe it.” Esquimalt-Royal Roads MLA, Maurine Karagianis, commented that “I think we all know and the appreciate the dangerous nature of this work and the dedication and courage of the men and women who provide protective services in our communities.”
