On February 10, 2011, the Ottawa Police Service charged an Ottawa Police officer with Criminal Code of Canada offenses. The 31 year-old man from Ottawa has been charged with two counts of Assault.

The Ottawa Police will not release the name of the officer in order to protect the victim’s privacy and prevent further victimization. We would request the media consider this when reporting on the matter.

The Ottawa Police Service Professional Standards Section is also investigating this matter and charges will be laid under the Police Services Act. The officer has been reassigned to administrative duties.

“The Ottawa Police Service takes the conduct of its members very seriously and holds all sworn officers to a standard that is consistent with community expectations and their oath of office,” noted Ottawa Police Chief Vern White. “In cases where an officer is found to be in violation of these standards, discipline will be sought.”
