trudeau assures canada will tolerate brexitIn a press statement issued Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Friday, he has assured that his government can tolerate the market turmoil sparked by Britain’s referendum vote to leave the European Union. In a statement, Mr. Trudeau alleged that “Canada has tremendous economic fundamentals that we are strengthening with key investments in infrastructure and measures to grow our middle class. We are well positioned to weather global market uncertainty as we have done in the past.”

Furthermore, Mr. Trudeau mentioned in his remarks that “the U.K. and the EU are important strategic partners for Canada with whom we enjoy deep historical ties and common values. We will continue to build relations with both parties as they forge a new relationship. Canada’s connections to our partners around the world are among its greatest assets, and these relationships contribute greatly to the prosperity of all Canadians.” In addition to that, Trudeau thanked British Prime Minister David Cameron for being a close ally and good friend to Canada. Mr. Cameron have announced to resign in October after his side lost in the referendum.

52 per cent Britons voted to leave the 27-nation trade bloc on Thursday. Although Trudeau and Finance Minister, Bill Morneau, had cautioned against the consequences of the U.K. leaving the EU, he also mentioned prior to the vote that “I’ve made no bones about the fact that I always believe that we are stronger together, but I will allow the people of Great Britain to make their own determination.”
