Officers from the DRPS K-9 Unit assisted members of the Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) in tracking and arresting two suspects in a recent investigation.

On Tuesday February 22, 2011, members of the DEU conducted a drug-trafficking investigation in Oshawa and required the assistance of the K-9 Unit, after the suspect vehicle was located parked and unoccupied on Highland Avenue in Oshawa. The K-9 officer and his partner entered into a track leading officers to a male suspect at Central Park Boulevard and Eulalie Avenue. The track continued and led to the detection and seizure of approximately one ounce of cocaine which had been freshly discarded. The track continued westbound on Eulalie Avenue and the second male suspect was located at Ritson Road and Eulalie Avenue.

Members of the DEU then conducted an entry into a residence on Erickson Drive in Whitby. As a result of the entry and search a third suspect was located and arrested without incident. Officers obtained a search warrant under the Controlled Drug and Substances Act and seized marihuana; approximately $5000 in cash, digital weigh scales and drug paraphernalia.
