Moncton Miracles Fall to the Saint John Mill Rats

The Moncton Miracles, presented by Rogers, lost to the Saint John Mill Rats with a final score of 108-114 The Miracles now sit with a 15-18 record.

The first basket of the game came from Miracles Isaac Butts in the inside of the key, which would soon be answered by the Mill Rats. Less than 2 minutes into the game Saint John had pulled ahead 4-9. The Miracles would try and shorten the lead and when the media time-out came with 5:27 on the clock they would only trail by 2, 14-16.

Devin Sweetney would tie the game up for Moncton with 4:01 left to play in the first at 18-18. Sweetney would score the next basket giving his team their first lead of the game. The first quarter ended with the Miracles edging the Mill Rats 26-24.

Mill Rats Antonio Burks would hit a 3 to give them control of the scoreboard, 33-34. Every time the Miracles would tie the game up their opponents would once again pull ahead. With less than 4 minutes to play Miracles Kamar Burke would go 2 for 2 from the line to bring the game within one possession, 41-43. The first half would end with the Miracles once again edging their provincial rivals 50-49.

The Mill Rats would start the third quarter off with a major push and go on a 13-5 run putting them up, 55-62. Saint John would continue to make their shots and pull ahead by 13 points with Kenny Jones’ 3 with 6 minutes left in the quarter, 62-75.

Miracles Oliver McNally would spark his team late in the third quarter when he made a far out 3, stole the ball when it went the other way, then went coast to coast for the two handed dunk. With 1:57 left to play the Miracles were only down 77-80.

With 3 minutes left to play Oliver McNally would hand it off to Devin Sweetney for the lay-up to bring the game within 1 point, 102-103. The Miracles would continue to try and rally back but would be unable to regain control.

Devin Sweetney led the way for the Miracles with 26 points. Oliver McNally followed with 25 points and Darrell Wonge dropped 20 points and pulled down 10 rebounds.

Anthony Anderson was the force for the Mill Rats with 43 points. Kenny Jones was next with 21 points and Jerice Crouch with 13 points.

Miracles Cordell Jeanty was handed an unsportsmanlike foul in the fourth quarter.

The Miracles play their next game on the road on Thursday, January 31st against the Halifax Rainmen.  Tip-off is 7pm at the Halifax Metro Centre. The next home game is Thursday, February 7th against the London Lightning.
