Brian Burke, President and General Manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs, announced Wednesday that the hockey club has assigned forward Nazem Kadri to the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League.

Kadri, 21, played in five preseason games with the Maple Leafs in 2011-12, collecting two assists, a plus-one rating (+1), two penalty minutes and seven shots on goal. The 6-0, 188-pound native of London, Ontario, suffered a knee injury on September 27 at Ottawa and was placed on injured reserve October 1. He has not appeared in a regular season game with the Maple Leafs this season.
