Ottawa SenatorsThe Ottawa Senators announced today that the club has acquired defenceman Marc Methot from the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for forward Nick Foligno.

Methot, 27, scored one goal and added six assists along with 24 penalty minutes in 26 games with Columbus last season. He suffered a broken jaw in a Feb. 9 games versus the Dallas Stars and missed the last 28 games of the season. He returned to play for Canada at the 2012 IIHF World Ice Hockey Championship, recording two assists, 25 penalty minutes and a +6 rating in six games.

The 6-3, 227-pound, native of Ottawa has spent his entire NHL career with the Blue Jackets, recording seven goals, 55 assists and 208 penalty minutes in 275 regular-season games.

Methot was drafted by Columbus with its sixth-round pick (168th overall) in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.

Foligno, 24, has spent each of the last five seasons with the Senators. He recorded 61 goals, 87 assists and 299 penalty minutes in 351 career NHL games. He was Ottawa’s first-round selection (28th overall) in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.
