David Nonis, Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs announced Saturday the hockey club has signed defenceman Cody Donaghey to a three-year entry level contract.
Donaghey, 18, registered 38 points (9 goals, 29 assists) in 67 regular season games with the Quebec Remparts of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League last season. The 6-1, 185-pound defenceman also collected 8 points (1 goal, 7 assists) in five playoff games with the Remparts last season. A native of St. John’s, Newfoundland, Donaghey led all defencemen on his team in both points (38) and goals (9) during the 2013-14 season.
Donaghey is one of the 64 players currently participating in Toronto’s 2014-15 NHL Training Camp. He was also invited on an amateur try-out the team’s Prospect Camp this past July, as well as Rookie Tournament last weekend in London, Ontario.
