The Los Angeles Kings will be attempting for the third time to confirm their entitlement to the franchise's first-ever Stanley Cup title when they host the New Jersey Devils in Game 6 tonight at the Staples Center.
The best of the seven games started in the favor of the Kings till they get a lead of 3-0. But afterwards the circumstances changed as they lost Game 4 on home ice and then were dealt a 2-1 setback in Saturday's Game 5 in New Jersey. The Devils will strive hard to stay in the game by outperforming the opposition and preventing themselves from elimination again tonight and force a decisive Game 7 this Wednesday in New Jersey. In this regard, New Jersey Devils has made no changes in the team as they head into Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final and that's no surprise as they try to keep their winning pace in the same direction.
On the other hands, Los Angeles Kings, would like this hockey season to end tonight and give their city the honor of achieving its first Stanley Cup after 45 years of trying.
New Jersey Devils has made their way of being the third team in NHL history and the first since the 1945 Detroit Red Wings to push a Stanley Cup Finals to six games after facing three successive losses against the opposing team in the first three games of the finals. Before them, the Red Wings lost that series in seven games, leaving the 1942 Toronto Maple Leafs as the only club to win the Cup after falling behind 3-0.
Devils have high hopes to flip the situation in their favor as Glenn Allan "Chico" Resch has commented that the Devils' 3-1 win in Game 4 showed them that the Kings weren't invincible. The 2-1 win on Saturday in Game 5 showed the team might be destined.
The Kings and Devils are facing each other for the first time in the Finals of this years’ cup. Before this, the teams only met twice during the 2011-12 regular season. New Jersey and L.A. faced each other twice in October and the Devils stood victorious in both of the contests.
