The teams of Spain and Ireland will clash in a crucial Group C encounter at PGE Arena Stadium in Gdansk.
Both of the teams failed to taste victory in their beginning matches of the tournament. Spain – who drew their first match against Italy with 1-1 last Sunday – have been criticised for playing without a recognised striker in their 4-3-3 formation. However, the Spainish coach Vicente del Bosque has not ruled out continuing his striker-less experiment against Ireland at Euro 2012 on Thursday.
Spain is top ranker of the FIFA ranking with 1. Spain has already one point as a result of last drawn match and know that a win can make their way into the second round. The Spanish line up likely to play include: Casillas, Arbeloa, Pique, Ramos, Alba, Xavi, Busquets, Xabi Alonso, Silva, Torres, Iniesta.
The upcoming match is also a huge challenge for Giovanni Trapattoni's team – Ireland, who suffered a disappointing 3-1 loss to Croatia in their very first match. Ireland was expected to be difficult to defeat, but sloppy errors in defence changed their situation against Slaven Bilic's men.
Ireland has the FIFA ranking of 18. Irish striker, Robbie Keane is still confident that his side has the potential to surprise the world and European champions. He said: "We know it's going to be a tough task on Thursday. After all, they are one of the best teams in the world but there's no reason why we can't get something out of the game.” The probable squad for the Republic of Ireland include: Given, O’Shea, Dunne, St Ledger, Ward, Duff, Andrews, Whelan, McGeady, Walters, Keane.
Spanish side has the bright chances of winning on Thursday as they have a one point edge over Irish team and that may prove to put pressure on Ireland as well. Despite all the above facts, only Thursday game between the two teams will decide who will come out as warriors!
