After an impressive come back in the second test match, Pakistan will look to deny Sri Lanka a long-awaited series victory when they take on the hosts in the third and final Test in Pallekele from Sunday. Sri Lanka, who won the first Test in Galle and drew the second in Colombo, got the bright chances of winning their first home series in three years since defeating New Zealand 2-0 in2009.
But Pakistan is looking confident after their brilliant performance with bat and ball in the rain-hit second Test on a placid pitch at the Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC) to aim for a series-levelling win.
Pakistan captain, Misbah-ul-Haq has said: “If the weather had not intervened, we could have pushed for a result. But everyone is encouraged by the way we played the second Test. Hopefully we can repeat that performance in the final Test and drawthe series.”
Pakistan’s probable team include: Taufeeq Umar, Mohammad Hafeez, Azhar Ali, Misbah-ul-Haq(c), Younis Khan, Asad Shafiq, Adnan Akmal(wk), Abdur Rehman, Saeed Ajmal, Aizaz Cheema, Junaid Khan.
Despite missing out on two double-centuries in successive matches, Sangakkara will take comfort from the news that he has regained the number one spot in the official Test rankings for batsmen. But Sri Lanka’s batting has proved to be weak in the current series with only Sangakkara and Tillakaratne Dilshan holding the innings together with centuries in both Tests. The Sri Lankan team include: Tharanga Paranavitana, Tillakaratne Dilshan, Kumar Sangakkara, Mahela Jayawardene(c), Thilan Samaraweera, Angelo Mathews, Prasanna Jayawardene(wk), Nuwan Kulasekara, Rangana Herath, Suraj Randiv, Nuwan Pradeep.
