Friday men’s field hockey matches of Pool A are expected to be interesting as Australia will start the action of the day against Argentina at 08:30 BST.
In Australia’s first match, the Five-Time World Player of the Year Jamie Dwyer scored a hat trick and assisted in one as he set up a 6-0 victory for Kookaburras over South Africa, who are 12th in FIH World Ranking. Within their second match against the Spanish team, current World No.1 side Australia continued to be ruthless, when they overwhelmed Spain (#5 in FIH Ranking) to record their second victory from as many matches.
For Argentina, they have an unfortunate start against the hosts as Great Britain Captain, Barry Middleton and a goal each for Dan Fox and Richard Smith ensured that Great Britain men got their opening match of London 2012 Olympics started with a 4-1 victory over Argentina at the Riverbank Arena. Similarly, in their second match against Pakistan, the Pan American Games Champions Argentina had to face the loss once again. The powerful drag-flicks of Imran Khan and Sohail Abbas found the targets in 30th and 44th minute respectively and gave the much needed win to Asian Giants Pakistan. Despite a good tempo of the game, Argentina finished in a defeat.
The Australian team record in the London 2012 Olympics is just the opposite of the Argentina. It’s a match of two wins against two losses. Would Argentina team be able to grab their first points in the men’s field hockey or let the opponents add on points to their board and continue Australian’s pace of winning?
