Today in the first session, Japan will take on South Africa in a match to decide for the positions of 9^th and 10^th. Both the teams are ranked at the 5^th place in their pools.

Japan has 4 points from group matches after 3 losses, 1 win and a draw. The only win they grab was from their last group match against the Chinese team. Upset win (1-0) of 9th ranked Japan over Silver Medalists from Beijing, China in their last group match, made sure that China missed the cut to semi-finals while hosts Great Britain qualified for semi-finals. The lone goal of the match came through Rika Komazawa in 16th minute of the other hard fought match. 

On the other hand, South Africa from Pool B has 3 points as a result of five group matches with 1 win and 4 losses. Like Japan, South African team also got its single victory from the last match against USA. In their match against USA, South African women’s overwhelmed USA with a 7-0 victory in Pool B and made sure that they will play for 9th position after entering in the tournament as 12th ranked, while USA will play to avoid wooden spoon.
