Highveld Lions, after opening their campaign with a remarkable win over the popular Mumbai Indians, are now looking to keep their terrific winning pace and strengthen their position when they take on the under-fire Chennai Super Kings, at Newlands, Cape Town, today, October 16, 2012.
The Lions do not have the big international stars in their ranks, but have the perfect combination for T20 cricket. The Lions have started perfectly by outplaying Mumbai Indians in front of the home crowd. They kept their opponents under check, courtesy Sohail Tanvir, Dirk Nannes and Aaron Phangiso, all of whom bowled well on their turns.
The chase started slowly but soon gained momentum as Quinton de Kock made an impressive half-century. Alongwith Neil McKenzie, the duo targeted the Indian contingent of the opposition. The likes of Harbhajan Singh, Dhawal Kulkarni and Pragyan Ojha were all taken apart as the target was easily chased down in 18.5 overs. The team has a good blend of experience and youth, while further know their conditions well. No changes are expected to their lineup. The probable Lions squad will include: Gulam Bodi, Alviro Peterson (c) , Zander de Bruyn, J Symes, Thami Tsolekile (wk), Quinton de Kock, Neil McKenzie, Pumelela Matshikwe, Chris Morris, Dirk Nannes, A Phangiso.
On the other hands, Chennai Super Kings lost their opening game to the Sydney Sixers. Now they are also hoping to start things positively and acquire as much points through continued victories as they can to pave their way into the Semis. Their batting squad is almost unchanged from their CLT20 winning team of 2010 except the new additions of Ravindra Jadeja and Faf du Plessis. They have a strong batting line-up with the aid of Suresh Raina and Du Plessis strengthening the middle order to make things easier for the MS Dhoni and company.
A change in the bowling personnel is expected with Albie Morkel to replace Bollinger as his inclusion will further offer depth to the batting line-up, which looked at unease on bouncy tracks. Another option would be to bring Nuwan Kulasekara in the lineup. The likely CSK line-up will include: Murali Vijay, Faf du Plessis, Suresh Raina, Subramanium Badrinath, Albie Morkel, Ravindra Jadeja, Wriddhiman Saha, MS Dhoni (c), Ravichandran Ashwin, Doug Bollinger, Ben Hilfenhaus.
