The tournament has now entered into a more decisive phase, when the Perth Scorchers will take on Delhi Daredevils in a must win match for both sides on Sunday.
After winning their opening match against their IPL counterparts Kolkata Knight Riders, second-placed Delhi`s cricketers were left to warm the benches as rain washed out their second game against Auckland Aces in Johannesburg. Though DD batsmen didn`t perform at their best, the team posted a competitive total, which their pace quartet successfully defended. In the form of David Warner, skipper Mahela Jayawardene, Virender Sehwag, Kevin Pietersen and Ross Taylor, the team have four proven match-winners in addition to the teen sensation Unmukt Chand. The probable DD squad will include: Mahela Jayawardene (captain), Ajit Agarkar, Unmukt Chand, Morne Morkel, Pawan Negi, Naman Ojha, Irfan Pathan, Kevin Pietersen, Andre Russell, Aavishkar Salvi, Virender Sehwag, Ross Taylor, Venugopal Rao, David Warner, Umesh Yadav.
Perth Scorchers, on the other hand, are lying bottom of the heap with a loss and a couple of points from Thursday`s wash-out. They desperately need to win on Sunday to have any chance of staying alive in the tournament. The Perth Scorchers have a top order rich in experience and firepower in the form of Herschelle Gibbs, Marcus North and Shaun Marsh. While Gibbs was the second-highest run-getter for them in their Big Bash League campaign, behind Mitchell Marsh`s tally of 309 runs, skipper North was not too far behind with an aggregate of 273 runs in eight innings.
The bowling department lacks a big name except for the expert spinner Brad Hogg and this is the main reason for their batsmen to set the match for them. The likely Perth line up will include: Marcus North (c), Tom Beaton, Michael Beer, Paul Collingwood, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Ryan Duffield, Ben Edmondson, Herschelle Gibbs, Brad Hogg, Simon Katich, Mitchell Marsh, Shaun Marsh, Joe Mennie, Nathan Rimmington, Luke Ronchi.
