One of the most anticipated and enthralling battle for Test supremacy begins as hosts Australia look to wrestle for the Test crown mace with South Africa when both the teams will meet in Brisbane Cricket Ground, commonly known as Gabba, on November 9, 2012.
Out of its last 10 Test matches, Australian team has won 8 with a defeat to New Zealand in Hobart last summer and a draw with West Indies in Port of Spain. In case, Australia wins the three-Test series against South Africa, by any margin, they will regain top rank in the ICC Test rankings, while the Proteas could fall as low as third. Australia’s major concern is about its star all-rouder Shane Watson who gets ruled out of the 1st test match due to his injury. The probable Australian squad will include: MJ Clarke*, SR Watson, EJM Cowan, BW Hilfenhaus, MEK Hussey, NM Lyon, JL Pattinson, RT Ponting, RJ Quiney, PM Siddle, MA Starc, MS Wade†, DA Warner.
On the other hand, South Africa had performed well in their warm-up game and hope to show the same spirit in Brisbane test match. Graeme Smith and Alviro Petersen are in good form and hope to give a good start by building a healthy opening partnership. Hashim Amla has also been sensational in test matches over the last year. Jacques Kallis is arguably the most amazing all-rounder in the game. Since Brisbane pitch is bowling pitch, South Africa need to put a big total on the board and play well to defend it with the help of their middle order.
