Malaysia’s Daren Liew employed all of his brilliance in the game and overpowered Ajay Jayaram in the opening round in just 59 minutes with 21-18, 16-21 and 21-14. He is now expected to meet Jan O Jorgensen of Denmark in the pre quarter-finals.
Indonesia’s budding shuttler Sony Dwi Kuncoro delivered a stunner against Du Pengyu in the opening round as he displayed commendable fighting spirit and survived this 82-minute battle with an impressive result of 11-21, 21-17 and 21-19.
Malaysia’s Chong Wei Feng, currently ranked at number 26 could not have a better start as he put up stunning show and showed exit to his 6th seeded Japanese rival in Men’s Singles first round with an inspiring 21-13 and 21-16 score in just 33 minutes.

Japan’s talented campaigner Eriko Hirose had a perfect start in the Li Ning China Open as she outclassed P. V. Sindhu to gain access to the pre quarter-finals with final figures of 22-20, 14-21 and 21-19 in 66 minutes.
World No.7 and Denmark’s top shuttler Tine Baun lived up to expectations as she put up strong show in Women’s Singles first round and easily thrashed Russia’s Anastasia Prokopenko with a decent margin of 21-8 and 21-19 in just 30 minutes.
Mixed Doubles experts Tontowi Ahmad and Liliyana Natsir forged a fruitful chemistry and marched into the second round after casting out Songphon Anugritayawon-Kunchala Voravichitchaikul by sealing a straight-set victory with 21-10 and 21-14 margin in just 24-minute encounter.
