Another exciting spin trial is going to begin as New Zealand geared up to tackle Sri Lanka in the first of the two-match Test series, starting today, November 17, 2012, at the Galle International Stadium.
Unbeaten Sri Lanka will look to extend their winning streak after coming into this game having won the ODI series 3-0, with two matches being washaed out. The hosts will be hoping for lesser rain interruptions during the Test series. The absence of Tillakaratne Dilshan after failing to recover from a back injury during the preceding ODI series will provide the chance to Dimuth Karunaratne, the left handed batsman to make his Test debut. Sri Lanka may not have the same qualit bowling attack that it had with Lasith Malinga and Muttiah Muralitharan in Test cricket. However, Nuwan Kulasekara, Chanaka Welegedara and Shaminda Eranga are capable seamers while Rangana Herath and Suraj Randiv have been performing well as spinners. The Sri Lankan probable squad will include: Tharanga Paranavitana, Dimuth Karunaratne, Kumar Sangakkara, Mahela Jayawardene(c), Thilan Samaraweera, Angelo Mathews, Prasanna Jayawardene(w), Nuwan Kulasekara, Rangana Herath, Suraj Randiv, Shaminda Eranga.
Despite losing the ODI series, the Kiwis ar hoping that it reflects in their performance in thehopeful to perform better in the opening Test. Martin Guptill, who was rested for the ODIs, is back to boost his team. He along with Brendon McCullum are key players at the top of the order and New Zealand will be banking on them to deliver good starts. New Zealand’s seam bowling department has no shortage of talent with the likes of Doug Bracewell and Tim Southee. The likely New Zealand squad will include: Martin Guptill, Kane Williamson, Brendon McCullum, Ross Taylor(c), Kruger van Wyk(w), James Franklin, Daniel Flynn, Jeetan Patel, Tim Southee, Doug Bracewell, Trent Boult.
