In the field hockey, on Saturday December 1st 2012, England is taking on India in a Champion Trophy Hockey tournament at State Netball Hockey Centre, Melbourne, Australia.

The top five position holders from the 2011 Men’s Champions Trophy automatically qualified in this year’s event. Unluckily, Spain relinquished its place for the Melbourne event due to economic constrictions. England was then invited to take the place of Spain as the next highest-ranked team not automatically qualified.

After getting fourth position at the recently completed, four-nation hockey International Super Series, India is keen to bring back with full strength at the Champions Trophy, starting in Melbourne, Australia on Saturday. Year 2012 Champions Trophy brings India back through qualification since 2004. India’s won the bronze medal in their previous Champions Trophy, which played in 1982 at Amsterdam.

India has been positioned in Group A along with England, New Zealand and Germany. Midfield star Sardar Singh will be the captain of 18-member Indian squad in the tournament, whereas defender VR Raghunath is the Vice-Captain on this tournament.
