At the Day 3 of Australian Open 2013, Novak Djokovic and Maria Sharapova showed their best play and each won their second-round match in an impressive way to advance to the third round Down Under.

Sharapova has beaten Misaki Doi in straight sets, another 6-0, 6-0 win for the Russian in a match that lasted less than 50 minutes. She will now face No. 25-seeded Venus Williams in the third round in an exciting match.

Djokovic made to win 16 straight singles matches at the Australian Open dating back to 2011. The two-time defending champion has easily won against American Ryan Harrison in the second round with a straight-sets victory, 6-1, 6-2, 6-3. Djokovic will next take on Czech veteran Radek Stepanek in the third round.

However, the biggest upset of the day was the loss of Australian Samantha Stosur in three sets against Jie Zheng in a match that lasted over two-and-a-half hours. The No. 9 seed lost the women’s draw against nunseeded Jie Zheng in three sets with 4-6, 6-1 and 5-7. The 28-year-old Stosur has never successfully advanced further than the fourth round at the Aussie Open, and now she has lost in the third round for the second consecutive year at Melbourne Park.
