The opening day of the 1st test clash between England and New Zealand was abandoned due to rainy weather at Dunedin’s University Oval on Wednesday.
New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum after winning the toss asked England to bat. But due to overcast conditions and gloomy light umpires Asad Rauf and Paul Reiffel delayed the start.
Afterwards, strong southerly winds brought driving rain and then the recurring showers forced the umpires to abandon the day’s play at about 3:15 GMT.
This leaves the spectators to watch only four days’ play with the forecasts of rainy weather by New Zealand’s Metservice over the last three days.
