Italy and Canada will play against each other in an interesting rivalry game on Friday. Due to the rainy weather, the game that was originally scheduled for Talking Stick has been moved to Chase Field, where the game can go on with the roof closed.
Team Italy is keep on improving as the sport gains popularity within a soccer-crazed country while Canada has maintained its average spot in the baseball pack for some time while dominating the hockey rankings. Italy is expected to be the most decorated team to come out of Europe, but in the field of international play the hopes are relatively very low. In the 2009 World Baseball Classic, Team Italy surprisingly knocked out the Canadian National Baseball Team in Canada. This year, Team Italy and Team Canada are in the same group to face each other in the group stage. They rank 9th and 10th respectively in the international baseball rankings and that leaves both the teams on same level of play. The Canadian likely squad will include: Joey Votto, Justin Morneau, John Axford, Philippe Aumont, Shawn Hill and Taylor Green.
Among the four teams in pool D, Team USA is regarded as the favorite top the group, while the runner-up spot is up to be grabbed by one of the teams between Mexico, Canada, and Italy. In this wake, Friday’s game could prove to be the decisive matchup for Pool D.
