On the 3rd day of 1st test match, Mohammad Ashraful and Mushfiqur Rahim posted centuries to help Bangladesh reach 438 for 4 in response to Sri Lanka’s 570 for four declared at Galle International Stadium on Sunday. Bangladesh is still short of 138 run from the hosts; however, they have not only managed to avoid the follow but also looking to reach a big score.

The experienced duo successfully made an unbroken 261-run partnership, the highest for Bangladesh for any wicket, breaking the previous best of 200 between Tamim Iqbal and Junaid Siddiq against India. This partnership is also a new record at Galle for any wicket by any team.

Ashraful, the 28-year-old player – who is playing his first Test since 2011, has managed to post the highest score by a Bangladeshi batsman in an innings, breaking his own record. The previous best was his unbeaten 158 against India. He was unbeaten on 189 at stumps and is eyeing to become the first Bangladeshi to score a double century. Ashraful has now become the 11th batsman to score 1000 Test runs against Sri Lanka. Of his six Test hundreds, five have come against Sri Lanka.

Earlier in the day, Bangladesh lost overnight batsman Mominul Haque for 56 who was caught at first slip by Angelo Mathews off the bowling of Nuwan Kulasekara. Afterwards the tourists lost the wicket of Mahmudullah at none in a was stump attempt by Dinesh Chandimal. But the fifth wicket partnership helped Bangladesh to achieve its best total away from home in a Test. Their previous best total was 416 all out against West Indies in St. Lucia in 2004. Mushfiqur made unbeaten 152 with 18 fours and a six. Previously, Sri Lanka have won all 12 Tests clashes against Bangladesh. And this time, it seems like Bangladesh is ready to draw a test against Sri Lanka.
