Day 13 of Frech open 2013 featured the men’s semifinals. The opening match was as exciting as a final match. This would be due to the fact that it was a rematch of last year’s title match between world No. 1 Novak Djokovic and defending champion Rafael Nadal. After a five-set battle, the seven-time French Open winner Nadal emerged victorious with a score of 6-4, 3-6, 6-1, 6-7 (3), 9-7. And that will mark the fourth consecutive year Nadal will be in the final at Roland Garros.
In the second semifinal match, No. 6 seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga struggled to become the first Frenchman to win the year’s second Grand Slam event in 30 years, but he seemed like being out of form and emerged poorly in the first set to David Ferrer 6-1. Afterwards, he remained unable to recover, losing a second-set tiebreaker before falling 6-2 in the third. Ferrer made his way to reach his first career Grand Slam final in an authoritative manner.
On Saturday, two of the best female tennis players on the planet in Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova will play in the finals for the women’s championship. Williams is regarded as favorite to win her second career French Open title, but she won’t be the only favored American taking to Court Philippe Chatrier.
The successful doubles team of Bob and Mike Bryan will also play in the men’s doubles final on Saturday, hoping to collect another Grand Slam title to their decorated trophy case.
