On Day 3 of Yonex French Open 2013, Chris Adcock played brilliantly winning both his doubles matches against higher-ranked pairs on Thursday. The Men’s Doubles team of Adcock and Andrew Ellis (England) tasted success in the second-round match, a sensational upset of Kim Ki Jung/Kim Sa Rang (Korea, 6) sealing the match with 22-20, 19-21 and 21-18 and entered the quarter-finals stage. Later in the day, Adcock and Gabrielle took merely 25 minutes for a repeat triumph over brother-sister duo Markis Kido/Pia Zebadiah Bernadeth (Indonesia, 8) and beat them with 21-8, 21-8 in the second round.

Women’s Singles saw a few major upsets. Scotland’s Kirsty Gilmour, ranked No. 29, won a bigger game by upsetting No.11 and World Championships bronze medallist PV Sindhu (India) with 10-21, 21-19 and 21-16.

Last year’s runner-up and the No. 4 seed from India – Saina Nehwal had lost her second match in a row to Bae Yeon Ju (Korea) in a lengthy match of 71 minutes with 20-22, 21-15 and 22-20.

Another upset in Women’s Singles was Juliane Schenk (Germany, 3), beaten 21-18, 21-14 by defending champion, Minatsu Mitani of Japan.

There were no surprises in store for World champion Ratchanok Intanon (Thailand, 2) as she cruised past Karin Schnaase (Germany) 21-16, 21-13. Tai Tzu Ying (Chinese Taipei, 8) was a 21-17, 21-19 winner over Singapore qualifier Chen Jiayuan.

The Indonesian Tommy Sugiarto grabbed a 21-18, 21-13 victory over third seed Kenichi Tago of Japan.

Two Indonesian compatriots Dionysius Hayom Rumbaka and Sony Dwi Kuncoro faced each other in a lengthy Men’s Singles match of 85 minutes. Finally, the younger Rumbaka survived with 21-15, 17-21 and 24-22.

In Women’s Doubles, seventh seeds Ma Jin/Zhong Qianxin (China) were stumped with 21-14, 24-22 by Greysia Polii/Nitya Krishinda Maheswari (Indonesia).
