On the opening day of third test match, Steven Smith posted his first hundred on home soil to help Australia recover from another stumbling top-order performance and reach 326 for 6 at stumps on Friday.
Australia after winning chose to bat first for the third consecutive Test. However, the hosts slumped to 143 for 5 before Smith contributed with the help of vice-captain Brad Haddin (55) a 124-run sixth-wicket stand to bail them out of danger. He remained unbeaten on 103 at stumps, batting with Mitchell Johnson (39 not out).
