Pakistan will start their tour to Sri Lanka with the test series after a long rest with first test match to be played at Galle International Stadium on Wednesday.
Sri Lanka will enter the series as favourites due to the home advantage and plenty of match practice. However, they will not repeat their mistake of underestimating the visitors. This is going to be the sixth Test series between the two teams since 2008. The hosts had recently lost the test series against South Africa with 0-1. Also, they will be emotional as Mahela Jayawardene is playing his last series. So they will be hoping that Jayawardene will play superbly during the whole series to have a fabulous departure. The probable Sri Lankan squad will include: Angelo Mathews (c), Kaushal Silva, Upul Tharanga, Kumar Sangakkara, Mahela Jayawardene, Kithuruwan Vithanage, Niroshan Dickwella (wk), Rangana Herath, Dilruwan Perera, Shaminda Eranga, Dhammika Prasad.
Pakistan, on the other hands, will look to achieve their first test series victory since defeating England in the UAE in 2012. The much worries issue for the team management is that Pakistan haven’t played Test cricket in last six months. Their last match in the longer format of the game was against Sri Lanka in United Arab Emirates (UAE) earlier this year. Though the players have undergone a conditioning camp to prepare for this tour, still they will be rusty in the start of the series due to having no alternative match practice. They are currently ranked third in the ICC’s Test Championship rankings, three spots above the home side. Also they possess Saeed Ajmal – one of the best spin bowlers od recent times in the world. The likely Pakistani line-up will include: Misbah-ul-Haq (c), Ahmed Shehzad, Khurram Manzoor, Azhar Ali, Younis Khan, Asad Shafiq, Sarfraz Ahmed (w), Saeed Ajmal, Abdur Rehman, Mohammad Talha, Junaid Khan.
