On the opening day of fourth test clash, Stuart Broad’s six-wicket haul made the visitors bundled out for just 152 and hand the hosts a big advantage at Manchester.

MS Dhoni’s decision to bat after winning the toss despite overcast conditions, which delayed the beginning by half hour due to overnight rain, have cost India hugely as they lost four wickets at the score of 8, with Shikhar Dhawan’s replacement Gautam Gambhir, Murali Vijay, Virat Kohli and Cheteshwar all back in the hut – the last three getting out for a zero.

As many as six Indian batsmen – Ravindra Jadeja, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Pankaj Singh being the other three – failed to trouble the scorers and earned India the ignominious record of most batsmen out for a duck in a Test innings, sharing it with South Africa, Bangladesh and Pakistan.

Only MS Dhoni (71) and R Ashwin (40), who replaced Rohit Sharma in the team, could stand the test against England pacers. The Indian skipper added 54 runs for the fifth wicket with Ajinkya Rahane (24) and 66 with Ashwin for the seventh wicket.

Broad collected 6 for 35, while James Anderson achieved 3 for 46 and Chris Jordan claimed 1 for 27.

By the close of day, Ian Bell (45*) and Chris Jordan (0*) were at the crease, taking the team’s score to 113/3 – trailing the visiting team by just 39 runs as England enjoyed a productive day in office.
