Toronto’s 2-1 (3-2 aggregate) Nutrilite Canadian Championship victory over Vancouver Whitecaps FC on July 2 put the Reds into the preliminary round of the 2011-12 CONCACAF Champions League.
Toronto will play a home and away match against the Central American team and Champions of Nicaragua, Real Esteli FC. On July 27 BMO Field will be the home venue for the match before Toronto travels to Esteli, located in Northwest Nicaragua, for the second match on August 2. This game takes place at Estadio Independencia.
The winner of the aggregate series will advance to Champions League Group C and play in six more games against Pumas of Mexico, Tauro (Panama) and the preliminary victor of Alianza (El Salvador) versus Major League Soccer’s FC Dallas.
Toronto’s next regular season MLS game takes place next Wednesday, July 20 versus Dallas FC at 8 p.m. Toronto FCs newly signed Designated Players Torsten Frings and Danny Koevermans will both make their debut for Toronto FC at this match.
