Not only did FC Edmonton play its way out of an eight-game winless streak and back into the home playoff picture, it dominated the league’s Player of the Week honours as well.

The obvious choice for Offensive Player of the Week was 19-year-old Michael Cox who netted two goals against the Atlanta Silverbacks on Sunday night.

On the defensive side of the ball, Paul Hamilton took home Player of the Week honours after his team produced a clean sheet against the league’s basement dwellers with Hamilton throwing in a couple of key tackles in the victory.

Cox has only started two games this season and has come on as a sub in six other league games. The 6’2” striker from Calgary, Alberta has one assist and two goals in his eight appearances.

Cox has been nursing a knee injury for the majority of the season and is just now getting back to full fitness.

Hamilton, on the other hand, has played in every game this season for FC Edmonton. The fellow Calgarian has enjoyed plenty of success on the pitch, having been named Man of the Match for his team several times.

Hamilton recently scored his first goal of the season in a 1-1 draw against the Fort Lauderdale Strikers on Aug. 14 and FC Edmonton fans won’t be surprised that the goal came off the centre-back’s head.

Cox, Hamilton and the rest of the FC Edmonton squad head off to Puerto Rico on Wednesday for two games against the Islanders on Aug. 27 and 30.
