Saturday will be first meeting between the two teams

FC Edmonton hopes the first time will be a charm when they take on the Scorpions Saturday at Heroes Stadium (K.O. @ 5:30 p.m. MDT).

San Antonio joined the NASL this season and has enjoyed plenty of early success. With 11 points in six games, the Scorpions are comfortably in a playoff spot sitting in 3rd place in the league standings, just one point behind the second place Stars.

After a slow start in which FC Edmonton took just one point from its first four games, the Eddies have come to life as of late, winning its last two games, scoring five goals in the process – eight in its past three.

“Our offense has definitely come to life since that first road trip and we need it to continue against the Scorpions on Saturday,” said FCE midfielder and leading scorer Shaun Saiko. “We haven’t faced before but (Pablo) Campos is playing extremely well now so we’ll have to be focused on defense as well.”

Campos is going in to Saturday’s contest as the reigning NASL Offensive Player of the Week, an honour bestowed upon Shaun Saiko the week before thanks to his three goals against the Carolina RailHawks.

On defense the Eddies have looked strong as of late as well. Paul Hamilton is currently the NASL’s Defensive Player of the Week thanks to shutouts against the RailHawks and Silverbacks and strong performances against Vancouver Whitecaps FC in the Amway Canadian Championships.
